LRT Info Center

After requesting for an info center for the last few months, I'm glad that Prasarana has finally set this up. Now residents who have questions or queries on the LRT project can turn to someplace.

SYARIKAT Prasarana Negara Berhad, the project owner for the LRT Line Extension Project (LEP) and the proposed Bus Rapid Transit – Sunway Line, has relocated its Project Information Centre (PIC) at The Summit Subang USJ to a permanent location at Sunway Pyramid.
Located at Level CP2 of the shopping complex, the centre will be operational from today, starting 10am.
“With the opening of our new PIC, the centre at The Summit will be officially closed.
Residents who want to make enquiries on the two projects — LEP and the proposed BRT – Sunway Line — can visit us at our new PIC,” said Prasarana Group Communications and Strategic Marketing head Lim Jin Aun in a statement.
The PIC will be open from 10am to 6pm from Mondays to Fridays, and from 10am to 2pm on Saturdays.
It will be closed on Sundays and public holidays.
“In addition to visiting the PIC, the public can visit www.lrtextension.com for the LEP project and www.brtsunwayline.com for the proposed BRT-Sunway Line project.
“Alternatively, they can call our hotline at 03-7885 2585,” added Lim.
Hailed as a key initiative to ease traffic congestion in the Klang Valley, the LEP will extend the current Kelana Jaya and Ampang LRT lines to Putra Heights, providing transport convenience for residents in Lembah Subang, Kelana Jaya, Subang Jaya, USJ, Bandar Kinrara, Puchong and Seri Petaling.
Launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak on June 9 last year, the proposed BRT-Sunway Line is a public-private partnership project between Prasarana and Sunway Group to provide eco-friendly bus services on elevated tracks for residents in Bandar Sunway and Subang Jaya.

UndiMalaysia! - The Rakyat Guides

Dear all,

One of the main initiatives of the MyConstitution campaign for the past two years was to produce a series of simplified 'guides' on the Federal Constitution, known as The Rakyat Guides (RG).

On 02 April 2011, the last RG was released, completing the series of 9 booklets. The complete set goes for RM6.00 per set as contribution to the cost of printing the booklets. It is not for profit.

The booklets are available at the Bar Council and State Bar Committees, as well at certain events participated by the Committee. We are also working towards trying to make the booklets available at bookshops throughout the country.

Soft-copies of the booklets are available online. Of course, the hard copies are much nicer!

Anyway, please sebarkan!

Help Amrita Soon to Nashville

Hi all

Some of you may remember Amrita Soon, the young song writer who loves to sing. She performed some of her original songs during the USJ Family Day in 2010 and also 2011.

Amrita is a homeschooler and pick up guitar, singing, song writing pretty much by herself, through encouragement and support by her parents and family. Her mother is a piano teacher so I guess that helped. Amrita is a soft spoken rather shy girl but her dream is big and strong. Amrita lives in USJ, with her family of 5, a cat and a dog.

She is greatly inspired by Taylor Swift who was discovered in the CMA Country Music Festival in Nashville. Amrita hopes to attend some workshop while she's there and also perhaps be discovered.

She has produced a CD with 5 of her original songs in raising fund for her trip to Nashville. I understand that she actually wrote a lot more songs than just 5.

If you donate a minimum of RM20 or more, you will get her CD. The songs are pretty good.

Would you like to help Amrita to Nashville?

MPSJ gives reasons for issuing notices on property valuation

MPSJ seeks your cooperation on this...

Council gives reasons for issuing notices

THE Subang Jaya Municipal Council’s (MPSJ) Valuation and Property Management Department director Raja Amir Iskandar Raja Azlan said the owner’s statement form was intended to update data on property ownership in areas under the loacl authority.

He said submission of the owner’s statement form would help the department in:

·Updating the latest information on property owners, such as the use of the premises, whether the property is occupied by its owner or rented out, whether the property has been modified or not, and other details to complete the department’s assessment records. Documents submitted by property owners such as title deeds and sales and purchase agreement, lease agreement are for verification purposes only and will be retained as MPSJ’s record;

·Identifying current property owner due to the possibility of a transfer or sale and purchase of property that was not reported to the MPSJ by giving the Form 1 notice (as contained in Section 160 of the Local Government Act (Act 171) to the Valuation and Property Management Department; and

·Verifying the mailing address should it differ from the address of the property subjected to assessment tax to facilitate the delivery of assessment bills and notices.

“Local authorities in Selangor received instructions from the state government to carry out the latest assessment tax evaluation, which should be done every five years,” said Raja Amir Iskandar

“The directive also required that local authorities not to increase the assessment fees despite an increase in evaluation.

“Evaluation work and amendments to the Valuation List is made from time to time (if the cause comes under the provisions of Section 144 of the Local Government Act 1976 (Act 171)).

“However, as a preparatory measure towards the evaluation work, the Valuation and Property Management has taken the initial steps towards updating the information and that was subsequently approved at the Finance Committee Committee meeting,” he said.

Raja Amir Iskandar said the owner’s statement form was initiated with the SS areas in Subang Jaya on July 19, and served to property owners by sending door-to-door notices in stages.

“However, due to a number of constraints faced by the department, the delivery of the notices will be by post,” he said.

“We hope that property owners will cooperate with us by completing and returning the owner’s statement form within 14 days upon receiving the form,” he said.

My Trip to the USA

Greeting from the United States of America.
I am fortunate and thankful that I was recently selected to participate in a 6 week Legislative Exchange Program in the USA, organized by the American Council for Young Political Leaders (ACYPL) and funded by the US government (Don’t worry, no MPSJ funds being used here).
The program starts off with briefing and orientation in Washington DC. Then we (4 Malaysians including myself) will be heading for St Louis where we will be attached with St Louis City Council for nearly a month.
This would certainly be a great opportunity to observe the workings of a rather mature democracy. One to the things I am keen on learning is the interactions and relations between the City Council and the residents. St Louis has a population of nearly 1 million, which is somewhat similar to MPSJ.
Among things to learn in this area is how public consultation is conducted, in areas of development and redevelopment (a hot topic in Subang Jaya), policy changes (such as licensing conditions, parking, etc), public spending and budgeting as well as complaint management. I certainly look forward to their meet the public sessions and town hall meetings.
Another area of keen interest is how they plan and manage public spaces, which is basically things like parks, playgrounds, community centers, hall, sports facilities, etc. It is certainly the impression from afar that in developed countries like the USA these facilities are top notched, and well maintained. Lets see how they manage to do it, as well as a cost comparison – how much do they spend on developing and maintaining these facilities compared to us.
The issuance and control of business activities (through business licenses) is another hot topic back in Subang Jaya, as with the rest of urban Malaysia. Common complaints back home are on cybercafés, massage centers & entertainment outlets. How should the city council balance the regulation of such businesses for harmonious living while keeping the freedom of choice and the advancement of the economy & tourism alive?
Other areas that I’m keen on learning is their traffic management, public transportation, public cleanliness, infrastructure maintenance and  public health (restaurant hygiene, pets, pest contro & vector diseases)
If you have any questions or suggestions, I welcome them. You can contact me via
