A park in USJ12 in Subang Jaya has become a meeting place for youths in the neighbourhood who would drink until the wee hours and vandalise the facilities in the area.

The residents in the area said the benches, gazebos and walls had been vandalised and the youths were causing social problems.

Irresponsible act: The community cabin is not spared from vandalism.

Unit trust consultant K.W. Tan, whose house is across the park, said he spent a few hours every Sunday to get rid of alcohol bottles that were left behind.

Tan said after getting high on alcohol these people would smash the beer bottles leaving the broken pieces scattered at the park.

“I would pick up the broken pieces of glass because children playing at the park would get hurt.

“I feel sad that a nice neighbourhood which has a big field and park has been vandalised,’’ he said.

Cleaning up: Tan picking up a liquor bottle found in the park.

Subang Jaya municipal councillor R. Rajiv said the park also experienced frequent blackouts caused by irresponsible residents.

Rajiv added these residents would remove the fuse from the fuse box to switch off the spotlights at the park so that their drinking spree would go unnoticed.

“This usually happens during the weekends,” he said.

MPSJ senior assistant director Muhammad Zaki Yusoff, who visited the area, said the council would look into the complaints.

Subang Jaya assemblyman Hannah Yeoh urged the residents to be civic conscious and appreciate the facilities provided to them.

“I hope the residents will be more responsible in making their areas a nice place to live,’’ she said.
